Empowering innovators with tools to create, collaborate, and
lead the future of smart wearable’s technology. Quick look inside the Open Ring:

PPG Sensor

The MAX30101 is an advanced optical sensor designed for photoplethysmography (PPG), commonly used to measure heart rate, oxygen saturation (SpO2), and other biometric parameters. Use cases include fitness tracking, continuous heart rate monitoring, sleep analysis, and stress detection.

Vibration Motor

The VG0832012 is a vibration motor designed to provide tactile feedback. It is typically used in wearable devices to alert users of notifications, alarms, or specific events. This motor can enhance user experience in applications like silent alarms, haptic feedback for gesture recognition, and navigation aids for visually impaired individuals.

IMU

The BHI360 is an AI-powered Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that integrates accelerometers and gyroscopes. This sensor is vital for tracking physical activities, detecting gestures, and enhancing navigation capabilities. Use cases include step counting, fall detection, motion tracking, and activity recognition.

Touch Sensor

The MTCH6102 is a touch sensor capable of detecting touch inputs on the ring. It supports multi-touch functionality and is designed to enable intuitive user interfaces with O Ring. This sensor allows users to interact with their devices through simple touches and gestures, providing a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Common Questions Answered on the Open Ring

Find answers to the most common questions about the platform, returns, product details, and more.

The Open Ring platform is designed for researchers, startups, and developers looking to explore and innovate using advanced open-source hardware. It provides:

Developers: A flexible, developer-first ecosystem to build custom applications, tailor data interactions, and drive projects forward.

Researchers: The freedom to experiment, iterate, and publish findings.

Startups: An open-source foundation to accelerate product development, with SDKs and APIs for seamless integration into workflows.

All design files and software development kits (SDKs) are accessible under the MIT license, allowing anyone to freely use, modify, and distribute them. Users can print and assemble the hardware themselves without needing to purchase it from us. Both the hardware and software can be customized and altered, fostering innovation and collaboration within the community. This openness ensures that the Open Ring can evolve with contributions from a diverse group of users and developers.

The Open Ring provides multiple ways to access raw sensor data. You can retrieve data offline from the ring’s internal memory, stream it in real-time using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), or transfer it wirelessly via the built-in NFC module. These options ensure you can easily access and use the data for various applications, whether offline, online, or through quick NFC transfers.

First, you own your data, specifically the raw sensor data, giving you full control over how it is used. The Open Ring is an open platform that allows you to develop applications, conduct research, and even create custom hardware based on its design. It offers two new types of interactions: a vibration motor for haptic feedback and a touch sensor for intuitive control. Additionally, it has no hidden costs—there are no subscriptions or fees for accessing your data. This combination of data ownership, open development, interactive features, and cost transparency makes the Open Ring a powerful and versatile tool for both personal and professional use.
